Your Guide to Traveling India

When to Go

A large factor in determining when to plan your trip to India should be based on the climate.

India’s weather can by placed into three categories, or seasons, the hot, the wet, and the cool. The most enjoyable time to visit is during the cool season.

  • The cool season in India is around November to Mid-February.
  • The hot season starts in February and includes 113ºF temperatures regularly.
  • In late May, the monsoon season begins. There is high humidity, electrical storms, short rainstorms, and dust storms. It rains in most areas everyday until around October.
  • In October, the nice, cool season begins again.

Another nice time to go to India is when there are festivals going on (see festivals page) if you would like a busy trip, or when there are no festivals, if you are seeking a relaxing vacation.

November to March is the wedding season, and it can be fun to watch the elaborate processions through the streets. You are almost guaranteed to see at least a few if you go during this time of the year.
